I have to be honest, I fully intended to eat dinner at Datz this past Sunday but apparently they close at 3:00pm on Sundays. Cruising around Hyde Park my friend and I spotted Daily Eats and decided to check it out. It has a diner look and feel about it and we like diners.
The staff was quick to greet us and seat us. We chose to eat outside, and our server Sydney was very knowledgeable about the menu. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day and she told us about specials that were not on the menu. She suggested a quesadilla that was like having a mini Thanksgiving for an appetizer. We were a little skeptical so we ordered a half and split it. I won’t do that again. I want one of my own, no more sharing.
The turkey was moist and perfectly seasoned, as was the cornbread stuffing. The cheese brought it all together and there was a cranberry and sour cream dipping sauce. OMG! I was in fat kid heaven. I ordered the Memphis Southern Fried Chicken sandwich on Ciabbata bread and it came with a remoulade dipping sauce. That thing was huge. It was also delicious. It came with a side salad and I managed to eat half before surrendering and getting the to go box. My friend had an Angus burger and she likes it medium. I find that unless you ask for medium rare most burgers arrive overcooked. This one was a perfect medium. She said she was very happy with her meal as well.
Our server checked on us regularly but was not intrusive. I felt the prices were reasonable with entrees averaging between 8 – 10 dollars. My only complaint was that it was chilly outside and the AC inside was just as bad if not worse. The servers were cold too. If only they could fix the temperature as well as they fix a plate of food. Oh well, next time I go I’ll remember to bring a sweater. And there will be a next time.
